Sailing from Lisbon to Seixal

Sailing from Lisbon to Seixal is a wonderful experience, as the typical town is situated on the shores of a picturesque bay, on the southern bank of the Tagus River.

We leave Doca de Santo Amaro, sail Lisbon’s south coast up to Terreiro do Paço, and continue headed to the calm Bay of Seixal.  The schedule must be aligned with the tide timings, but it is worth also thinking about lunchtime. Once we arrive at Seixal, visiting the town’s historic center and sampling the local cuisine is a must. Seixal is known for its beautiful natural landscapes, historic landmarks, and cultural attractions. Besides the Seixal Bay Natural Reserve, some of the popular tourist attractions include the Quinta da Fidalga Palace and the Seixal Museum which investigates and disseminates testimonies of Man and the environment, related to the territory and the population of the municipality.

Side by Side with a Varino

Marina do Seixal, offers a range of facilities, but also a wonderful piece and quiet feeling. This time we got lucky, with no available space in the marina, we were invited to hold hands with Varino. Varino is a local majestic colorful typical boat. This boat was a means of transportation that, for centuries, was the sustenance of the people who made this estuary their way of life and were marked by the rhythms of the Tagus and by the experiences it provided.

Along the dock we find several options for a good meal. Nevertheless, walking for the interior streets also brings us some additional taste of the local environment and gastronomic options. These include fresh fish which you easily find being grilled just next to where you seat.
